Chemical Marketing and Economics (CM&E), the business and investment group of the American Chemical Society’s New York Section (ACS NY), has awarded Marcelo Odebrecht, president and CEO of Odebrecht S.A., has been honored with the Leadership Award for Outstanding Global Growth, which recognizes the exceptional contribution to the advancement of society and in particular to the chemical
industry through Braskem, a company that is controlled by Odebrecht.

The award will be presented at a ceremony in the New York City Yale Club on December 5, 2013 as part of CM&E’s Fourth Annual Mergers and Acquisitions event in which two other honorees will also be recognized for a lifetime of
achievement and for distinction in private equity.
Under the leadership of Marcelo Odebrecht, Odebrecht S.A. has become a
prominent builder of the continent of South America and one of the fastest
growing conglomerates achieving sales of more than $40 billion in 2011. Odebrecht’s
contributions in the world of chemistry are evident through Braskem, which is the
Americas’ top thermoplastic resins producer and the world’s fifth petrochemical producer. With 36 industrial plants spread across Brazil, the U.S. and Germany, the company produces more than 35 billion pounds of thermoplastic resins
and other petrochemicals per year. Braskem is also the world’s leading biopolymers producer with its 440 million pound Green PE plant that produces polyethylene from sugarcane-based ethanol.
